September is Puppy Mill Awareness Month: Stand Up for Change and Join Us on Puppy Mill Awareness Day

Why Puppy Mill Awareness Matters

As September begins, it’s a crucial time to spotlight an important issue in animal welfare:

Puppy Mill Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about the harsh conditions faced by dogs in puppy mills and advocating for necessary change. It’s a moment to reflect on our progress and the ongoing efforts required to end these inhumane practices.

Puppy Mills are large-scale commercial breeding operations where profit is prioritized over the well-being of the animals. Dogs in these facilities endure unspeakable suffering, living in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions with minimal medical care and socialization. Their lives are a far cry from the love and care we strive to provide our pets.

Puppy Mill Awareness Day, observed on September 21st, is a special day to honor the countless dogs who have suffered and to advocate for those still in need. Join us in Fenton, Mo for a peaceful protest of Petland Fenton. It’s an opportunity to unite, share information, and push for legislation that can bring about meaningful change.

Get Involved

Educate Yourself and Others: Knowledge is power. Learn about puppy mills and share this information with others to help raise awareness. Bailing Out Benji, a nonprofit organization dedicated to exposing the puppy mill industry and educating the public, offers excellent resources and research about where pet store puppies come from. Share their articles, infographics, and educational tools on social media to inform and inspire others to take action.

Support Legislation: Advocate for stronger animal welfare laws targeting puppy mills in Missouri. Organizations like the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation work tirelessly to push for laws that protect dogs from the cruelty of puppy mills. Supporting their efforts and staying informed about legislative updates in Missouri can help make real progress in shutting down these cruel operations.

Adopt, Don’t Shop: When looking for a new furry friend, choose to adopt from a shelter or rescue organization. Adopting helps provide a loving home to a dog in need and reduces the demand that fuels puppy mills. Petfinder.com is an excellent resource!

Volunteer and Donate: Many organizations focused on ending puppy mills and rescuing dogs rely on volunteers and donations. If you are able, please consider contributing your time or resources to support their efforts. In Missouri, you can also support and volunteer with organizations like Bailing Out Benji, Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation, START-St. Louis Animal Rights Team, and Puppy Mill Free Missouri, all of which work tirelessly to improve the lives of dogs by fighting puppy mills and advocating for legislative changes. If you can, consider contributing your time or resources to support their efforts.

Raise Your Voice: Participate in events, fundraisers, and campaigns that promote puppy mill awareness. Join us at our peaceful Petland protests in Fenton, Mo. Your voice can help amplify the message and inspire others to take action.

Take Action: This September, let’s join forces to end the suffering of dogs in puppy mills. Together, we can create a world where every dog is treated with the love and respect they deserve. Our combined efforts are making a difference, one paw at a time. Visit Bailing Out Benj or Puppy Mill Free Missouri to learn more about how you can get involved. Share your commitment on social media using the hashtag #EndPuppyMills and encourage others to join the movement.
